EMPTYING THE BOOK DONATION BOX AT 15 MAIN ST.
Once a week—Two people to remove Books from the Donation Box in the rear of the Friends’ House at 15 Main Street.
We will show you where the Books should be put in boxes inside the house where they will be sorted and boxed for our Annual sale. You can carry as many books at a time as you can handle. Think of this job as lifting weights at a fitness center, BUT you won’t have to pay us a monthly fee. We need someone at the beginning of the week, the end of the week, and one day on the weekend. Or one person who is willing to stop by a few times a week.
RETRIEVING MESSAGES FROM THE FRIENDS’ PHONE
Twice a week—Someone who can retrieve messages remotely (e.g. from home, work, cell phone) from the Friends’ phone and reroute them to the appropriate Friends’ contact who can help the caller.
It involves an hour of training to get a list of who does what for Friends with their phone numbers, when we planning activities, and a list of steps to take when retrieving messages and leaving a new greeting. You can do this job from home in your warm and comfortable PJ’s. We won’t tell.
HELP WORK THE BOOKS DROPS AT 15 MAIN ST.
On the 2nd Saturday of the Month starting in March (weather permitting,) Adults are needed to help with Donation Days. From 9 or 10 AM (depending on the Month,) we welcome Donors behind our house at 15 Main Street. We usually have several High School students to actually unload the cars, but we need friendly Adults to interact with the Donors and provide guidance to these wonderful students. It can get pretty busy, but it can also be a lot of fun!
OCCASIONAL PICK-UP OF BOOK COLLECTIONS FROM THE ELDERLY
Once in a while, one or two Adults and their cars are needed to pick-up Book Collections from an Elderly Person who has difficulty bringing the Books to us. We picked them up at their house and bring them to 15 Main. It may be necessary to box up their Books at their house and we can provide boxes, packing tape and markers. Takes about ½ day, scheduled to everyone’s convenience. It can be quite entertaining to hear stories of their past.
COLUMBUS DAY WEEKEND ANNUAL BOOK SALE (OCTOBER) AT THE PAL CENTER, DANBURY

Amiable, strong people who are able to set up tables and signs for the Book Sale on Tuesday, October 6, and/or take down the same tables and signs a week later on Tuesday, October 13. Interested in construction? See you on the 6th. Think destruction might be more fun? See you on the 13th.
Also, on the 13th, we need a few people to transport signage and small items to our storage facility a few blocks away. Friends will help you to carefully store some of the materials we will need for the 2021 Book Sale.
In addition, people are needed to set up the Books on the tables, both before and during the Book Sale along with Book Counters and Cashiers at the sale itself.
HELPING TO SELL BOOKS ON FRIENDS’ ONLINE AMAZON BOOK SITE
Volunteers are needed weekly for three types of activities related to selling our books on Amazon. One is to scan for potential Books to sell at our sorting facility at 15 Main St. and bring them over to our fulfillment office at the Danbury Library. The second is to list those selected books on Amazon using computers in that office. This involves writing up book descriptions, assigning pricing and determining shipping information. The third is to pack-up the books which have sold and label them for shipping - again at the Danbury Library. Training is provided for all three functions.
HELP MAN FRIENDS' TABLE AT SPECIAL EVENTS HELD AT DANBURY LIBRARY OR AROUND TOWN
Through-out the year, Danbury Library holds wonderful Special Events for the Community. Around town, are other special events in which Friends participate. We either sells or gives free books. Selling Cook Books at the weekly Farmer’s Market during the summer has been one of the newer activities. All of these are very upbeat!
OCCASIONAL DROP-OFF OF BOOKS TO LOCAL INSTITUTIONS
Once in awhile, an Adult with a car is needed to drop-off books to Schools, Nursing Homes, Prisons and other institutions in need. They are always very appreciative.
If any of these opportunities interest you, please let us know. We very much look forward to your help and would be delighted if you invited a friend!
